About kyototeaceremony.com
kyototeaceremony.com is an independent guide to tea ceremonies you can book in Kyoto and Uji. This page says who runs it, how it is paid for and how the information is gathered.
Who is behind this site
The site is run by Patrick Kühne, an independent travel publisher from Markkleeberg near Leipzig, Germany. He maintains a small group of guides to tours and tickets, including several on Japan. No agency writes for this site; research, writing and corrections are done by one person, who also reads the mail.
What this site does
Most tea ceremony listings in Kyoto show a bowl of matcha and a kimono. They say less about what decides the visit: kimono included or extra, kneeling on tatami or sitting on a chair, the share of the booked time that goes on dressing, and the part of the city you have to get to. We line up the bookable ceremonies against exactly these points and mark what a listing leaves open. We do not take bookings ourselves; every reservation is made on the booking platform.
How the site is paid for
When you book through one of our links, the booking platform pays us a commission out of its own margin. Your price does not change. No tea house pays for its place on this site, and the comparison tables are sorted by the number of guest reviews, not by commission.
Where the information comes from
Prices, ratings and review counts come from the booking partners and are updated automatically. Facts about each ceremony (length, venue, kimono, seating, age limits) are taken from the listings and checked again when they change. If a listing contradicts itself or says nothing, we say so on the page rather than fill the gap. If you spot something outdated, write to us and we will fix it.
What we are not
We do not host tea ceremonies and have no ties to any tea house named here. For anything binding, such as cancellations, schedule changes or dress rules, the tea house and the booking platform have the final word.
